Welcome to the Just A Nanosecond Home Page

Welcome to my Just A Nanosecond web page. It has only taken almost seven years to go from the first Just A Nanosecond article in Flamenco to the web. Oh well, never mind. I'm here now.

What is Just A Nanosecond?

“Just A Nanosecond” is the name of the column that I have been writing on and off for Flamenco, the newsletter of Miami Mensa, since 2001. These articles have covered various aspects of mathematics, physics and technology. The subjects covered in the articles have been chosen at random, the main deciding factor for them being whether I felt able to discuss the subject at a level that would not only be comprehensible the art historian, but would also arouse their interest.

On these pages, you will see expanded and revised versions of the articles that I have written for Flamenco. Keep coming back, as I am starting small, but the catalog of articles is going to get bigger and bigger.

The Logo

You may be wondering about the logo at the top of the page? What's with the twelve-inch ruler and the flash of light? Ask any physicist. That flash of light took time to go from one end of the ruler. The journey time was 0.000000001 seconds, or just a nanosecond (ouch!).
