You might ask yourself, "What's in it for me?" Truthfully, the answer is Nothing! Nothing, that is, unless you enjoy meeting people who think in the strange way that you do. Nothing, that is, unless you enjoy meeting people with the same perverse sense of humor that you have. Nothing, that is, unless you enjoy meeting people who have the same unquenchable curiosity that you have. Nothing, that is, unless you enjoy meeting people with the same intellectual capacity that you have. Nothing, that is, unless you enjoy a non-threatening, give-and-take atmosphere with other open-minded people.
Mensa is primarily a social organization, as such it is a place which offers many opportunities to meet stimulating people.
Mensa offers many local activities, frequent regional gatherings, an annual American Mensa gathering, numerous other national gatherings, and an international gathering. All great venues to meet. For those too shy to meet in person there are more than 200 Special Interest Groups with which you can correspond, in addition to very active LinkedIn groups with forums that will make you feel like you are Leibniz talking to Clarke. As with any organization you gain from Mensa what you are willing to invest in it.
We have a monthly game night, a monthly book club meeting, and a monthly speaker. We participate in the King Mango Strut every year. We've even been known to have a Christmas sing-along.
But apart from all this and perhaps most importantly, don't you just want to know? You can try for Mensa and get tested just to see where you stand. You could also qualify for Mensa with the scores from intelligence tests you may have already taken. Find out more at us.mensa.org/join/testscores.
